Although the world is immersed in a scenario of health and economic crisis, due to the new coronavirus, some sectors of the economy show huge potential for growth. This is the case of the photovoltaic solar energy, which has been identified as one of the main alternatives for economic growth recovery, of countries and companies, in the post-pandemic.

Energy from renewable sources is among the priority actions taken by several countries, as it offers opportunities to attract investment, create jobs, diversify the electricity supply, and achieve sustainability goals.

The economic recovery plan created by the European Commission, for example, has the generation of energy from renewable sources as one of its strategic bases. Named “Next Generation EU”, the program foresees investments of €750 billion, and requires that 37% of these resources are spent on climate-related subjects, mainly in clean energy projects.

Impacts on the national economy

The inclusion and appreciation of the topic in global economic recovery plans is already an inspiration for the financial potential linked to clean energy. However, confirming expectations, it is possible to see tangible results today, including in Brazil. According to the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR), for example, the photovoltaic energy sector in the country generated more than 41,000 jobs, in the first half of 2020, even with the drop in economic activity due to Covid-19.

Brazil has an abundance of solar resources and, as a result, has assumed an increasingly prominent position in the development and use of photovoltaic technology. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Brazil took the 16th position in the world ranking of photovoltaic solar energy, joining the TOP 20 countries with the highest installed capacity.

According to the person responsible for commercial operations at Bonö Fotovoltaico in the Midwest, Head of Commercial Nelson Orcioli, there is still plenty of room for solar energy to grow in Brazil, with the sectors that can benefit the most: agribusiness, industry and retail.

In addition to the natural savings from solar energy projects, the government has created incentives for the sector. At a federal level, the government maintains the import tax exemption for solar energy equipment until the end of 2021.

“Although photovoltaics provides energy savings, there are still questions about the process steps and related costs. Therefore, tax incentives tend to contribute to the popularization of the theme, which can result in projects that help the financial recovery of different businesses”, comments Orcioli.

Investment with guaranteed return

Although the idea of investing during a crisis may scare some entrepreneurs, the vast majority have bet on investing in solar energy as an opportunity to reduce fixed costs and obtain consistent competitive advantages.

For Bonö's commercial director, Marcelo Abuhamad, investing in photovoltaic solar energy projects is an intelligent, strategic, and very safe decision in terms of return.

“For each deal, Bonö calculates the value of the project so that the monthly savings managed by the system exceed the financing portion. In this way, the client does not need to decapitalize to obtain the technology. It is the ideal investment for businesses that need to reduce costs and still increase their production capacity”, comments Abuhamad.

An example of this is the company Fiat Marajó from Londrina, PR, which saved R$241,492.49 during the last year of 2020. 984 photovoltaic modules of 345 Watts were installed, a total of 312.1 KWP capacity.

With the savings, any commercial establishment can invest more resources to leverage business, especially in the current scenario we are experiencing. After all, it is known that the way out of any crisis is the constant search for innovation and fixed savings.
